MILESTONES

Celebrating 21 Years!

This year, we celebrate a significant milestone—the 21st anniversary of the Black Policy Conference (BPC)! For two decades, BPC has served as a vital platform for engaging in transformative conversations, driving action, and shaping the future of Black communities. It’s more than a conference—it’s a movement that has sustained its relevance, power, and influence across generations.

Over the past 21 years, BPC has brought together trailblazers, change-makers, and community leaders to tackle the most pressing issues facing Black communities. From education to economic development, healthcare to housing, and political engagement to cultural preservation, the conference has created space for bold ideas, practical strategies, and collective action. This staying power is a testament to its importance, its purpose, and the unwavering commitment of those who lead it forward each year.

This 21st year is a time to honor the legacy of the conference while looking boldly to the future. We are committed to making this a momentous event that reflects the weight of its history and the urgency of its mission. Under the theme "Building Tomorrow, Today: Mobilizing for the Future We Envision," we’re going big—bringing together the brightest minds and most dedicated advocates to explore pathways to justice, equity, and sustainable freedom.

WHO WE ARE

Black Students Making an Impact

The conference was founded with the vision of establishing a lasting institutional legacy for Black students at Harvard Kennedy School, serving as both a homecoming for alumni and a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas on the most pressing issues impacting Black communities worldwide.

THEME

Vision Behind the Theme

This year’s theme, Building Tomorrow Today: Mobilizing for the Future We Envision, embraces the power of intentional action—recognizing that the future we seek is shaped by the work we commit to now. Inspired by John Lewis’s call to make “good trouble, necessary trouble,” and Stacey Abrams’s unwavering commitment to expanding democratic access, this theme calls us to pair bold vision with strategic mobilization.

The pillars of Building Tomorrow Today reflect this vision:

  • Envision: Defining the future we deserve by centering equity, justice, and opportunity in our collective imagination.

  • Mobilize: Organizing communities, expanding civic engagement, and building political power to turn vision into measurable progress.

  • Build: Designing policies, institutions, and systems that address structural inequities and create sustainable pathways for advancement.

  • Sustain: Cultivating long-term leadership, cross-sector collaboration, and generational impact to ensure that progress endures.

This framework reminds us that change does not happen by accident. It is built through courage, coordination, and commitment. By envisioning boldly and mobilizing intentionally, we lay the foundation for a future rooted in justice, representation, and shared prosperity—for this generation and those to come.
